Living so close to Washington, DC is great - it's a great place to go and see the sites for Free. I had a chance to go to the new Martin Luther King Memorial a couple of weeks ago when I was in DC for Christmas and it's a great addition to the Memorials.
I like to pack a lunch and it's about a 2 and 1/2 drive - we head out early and like to park around the river front near the Lincoln Memorial and walk the trails around the Memorials. I don't mind driving in DC at all, another great place to park is over by Union Station then you can walk to several other buildings and sites very easily.
